Between 2008 and 2010, she hustled through small businesses and temporary gigs, searching for something meaningful. God’s plan revealed itself: a calling to the Film, TV, and Entertainment Industry. Early presenting gigs were fun but never felt like a career—until she noticed a gap in the industry for diverse, African talent.
Life tested her faith in 2012 when she battled severe pregnancy complications, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which nearly cost her life. Surrounded by prayer, family support, and divine grace, she gave birth to a healthy daughter, Neriah. That season, though difficult, prepared her for the leap she would take the following year.
In 2013, Joy officially launched Macrain as a talent agency, starting with just herself as the first talent. With no formal media education, no office, and no capital, she relied on faith, creativity, and persistence. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” became her guiding principle.>
